PCH Tour: Last Day with the McCoys

Highest Bridge in Oregon

Day 42 – Got up in time for some of Russ’s homemade red chili, scrambled eggs and pancakes. The chili is a family recipe, passed down from his grandmother. It was awesome. Just enough spice, but not overwhelming. I even rubbed my pancakes in it. Damn that was good.

The family was having a birthday party for Wes and Debbie’s son, Andrew. Russ and I helped set up the tables and chairs outside. Wes and Debbie prepped the food, including massive amounts of Crane melon. The whole family came over and we all sat around eating and drinking and telling stories. It was a blast. I felt totally at home with the McCoy family.

After everyone left we cleaned up and put all the tables and chairs away. I think I dozed off again, for yet another nap. I spent most of the afternoon and evening sending out Couchsurfing and Warm Showers requests for a place to stay in San Francisco. I sent out dozens and I wasn’t hearing anything back. After a few more requests, I went out to the garage to mount my new air pump to the bike.

I got everything packed up and ready to go, so I could leave first thing in the morning. I knew I’d eventually find a place to stay. I didn’t worry about it too much. Things always seem to work there way out if you let them. We all went to bed early that night. It was going to be strange parting ways and hitting the road alone the next day. But I had a feeling all of our paths would cross again some day.
